Fairy Wishes...The Library Challenge #2~The Hobbit, A Blog Named Hero Challenge~Use Your Favourite Hero Arts Products

Hello,

Hope everyone has had a wonderful week with signs of Spring beginning to appear. Snowing here, but bright blue sky is becoming visible as the clouds lift. I've been up to lots of behind-the-scenes crafting...time to catch up with a post or two.

Today, a card for The Library Challenge #2~The Hobbit,

featuring fairies, from another of my favourite Hero Arts sets...well, technically a kit...based on A Midsummer Night's Dream. The background is a blend of Spun Sugar, Picked Pistachio, Milled Lavender and Dusty Concord (much brighter in real life); the fairies are copic-coloured. Yes, their wings and dresses are liberally coated with sparkle!

I did some research about the appearance of fairies in the novel and discovered that, while technically, they don't appear, Tolkien does make several references to them, leading us to the understanding that "...fairies was a Hobbit name for Elves. Some lived in the land of the Faerie."  So, that's what I'm going with: a card with fairies or, if you prefer, elves (with wings *grin*).  Of course, I also drew inspiration from the colours on the cover and the content; The Hobbit is, indeed, a "true" fairy story (based on his essay “On Fairy-Stories” - which is quite interesting, I might add).

Okay, enough with the teacher-y stuff! Let's just say revisiting my memories of the novel, conducting a snippet of research and, above all, creating my card, were delightful!

Since these 'elves' and their woodland surroundings are HA have a special place in my collection, it's also heading to A Blog Named Hero Challenge~Use Your Favourite Hero Arts Products

That's it from me!

Thank you for dropping by!

Oh I love your card, Carol! The Hobbit is one book, I could not read beyond two pages. I feel terrible confessing it! Someone gave it to me knowing my love for reading but it just didn't take me to this fantasy land I was expecting. But your card certainly did.. I love fairies more than elves :P

c... I once sent a special little granddaughter a 'fairy' wing telling her that they shed them, to grow bigger ones. She still has it... it was a perfectly beautiful dragonfly wing in all honesty... but I do believe, I do believe...I DO believe in fairies!
This mid-summer's night dreamy card is so precious!

Shimmery, sparkly and wonderfully magical, Carol! LOVE The Hobbit ... it's been a favourite since I first read it (aged 7) ... and it's been read a million or so times since then! Your card is a delicious take on it! Hugs, Anita :)

Look at that gorgeous inked background. So soft and pretty. I adore your beautiful fairies, too. Looks like a magical portal into the fairy realm. I know I've read the Hobbit, but it's been a pretty long time, so I don't remember much. But I always remember how wonderful your cards are! :) Hugs!

It's lovely Carol - such a pretty colour combo and I do like how you've arranged them around the aperture. In the book I believe there was a rumour that Bilbo's grandmother was a fairy... Thanks for joining The Library.
