STAMPlorations Throwback Thursday (February 2020)...Casing Tenia (Jazzy Paper Designs)

Hello,

A warm welcome to my second, of three, STAMPlorations Throwback Thursdays, where we select a previous card/project - one of our own or a teammate's - and 're-vision' it in three ways.

Call me daring (or perhaps, crazy) for deciding to draw inspiration from super talented, uber-cool, always something unique STAMP designer, Tenia Nelson!  Her clean, funky style is pure delight soooo...I thought I'd try channeling my 'inner Tenia' to see if I could create cards as sensational as hers.  The specific card I've selected - featuring a sticker, stencil, washi tape and her 'signature touch heart' - is the one she created for Sticker Monday:

Delightful, right!

My three cards follow Tenia's design/sketch, as well as stickers, stencils and snippets of washi (which is something I rarely use).

Ready to see how Tenia inspired me?  Let's go....

Card #1
This 'warm up' card follows Tenia's closely...

Such fun to make and, in true Tenia 'to-the-point' style, here's what I did:
  • Create panel from white card base.
  • Ink up Shutters stencil.
  • Add Good Things sentiment sticker onto a piece of paper; die cute. Add washi tape under sentiment edges; add Tenia's signature heart (same ink as stencil, colour with Nuvo sparkle pen)
  • Adhere sentiment onto image panel using foam to create dimension.
  • Adhere the image panel onto card base.

Card #2
For this card, I continued with the same elements and sketch, but used the sticker in a different fashion:

  • Create panel from white card base.
  • Ink up Shutters stencil.
  • Add one of the Mixed Media #1 stickers onto a piece of paper; die cut Coffee Cup Silhouette. Die cut two more coffee cups and stack for dimension.
  • Keep one set of inside pieces to inlay, creating the illusion of a panel.
  • Add signature heart (same ink as stencil, colour with Nuvo sparkle pen)
  • Adhere stacked coffee cup onto image panel; inlay white pieces.
  • Adhere the image panel onto card base.

Card #3
For my final card, I used two sets of stickers...

  • Create panel from white card base.
  • Adhere two stickers from Artsy Geometric Backgrounds onto a piece of cardstock. Die cut using Basic A2 Nesting Panels (I used Panel 3).
  • Add Good Things sentiment sticker onto a piece of paper; die cute. Add washi tape on sentiment corners; add signature heart. Adhere sentiment panel to panel, using foam for dimension.
  • Adhere the image panel onto card base.

I learned so much from 'copying' Tenia's style and trying to add a few different touches of my own. A huge THANK YOU to Tenia for being so incredibly inspiring.

There you have it: Throwback Thursday #2 is a wrap!  I'll be back in March!

Two reminders:
  • Shery is offering a $15 gift code to one lucky winner who will be drawn from all comments left on the Throwback Thursday post for the month, as well as from my post, here.

Hello Carol! I'm used to seeing you at Uniko but how nice to drop in on you while you have one of your other hats on! This is such an interesting post because it takes us through your design process. Gorgeous cards! Vicky x

Your inner Tenia came out in full force, Carol. I can see her inspiration in all three cards but I like how as you progressed some of your own creativity showed through.

Well Carol, where have I been? You just taught me that there are stickers out there in the card making world. I love the sentiments font. You did a great job of making that design your own. The second card is my favorite! It seems to have that Carol feel to it with great use of dies! xx

Carol you nailed Tenia's card design, your three cards are just fabulous, the stencilled background is a lovely base for the focal images, nicely set off with little touch of washi tape... Robyn

The pale pink with the stencil works magically against the white and the sticker elements! These are absolutely wonderful!
