Floral Window Box Butterflies...AAA Cards: Game #11, ColourQ #250

Happy Saturday, all! I hope the sun is shining as brightly wherever you may be, as it is here in Bend OR!

I'm here with a card I made today, between my husband's early morning Time Trial and his afternoon Criterium race.  Crits, while exciting to watch on several levels (a tactical race, where riders complete a number of circuts, over a specific time frame, around a lap that's usually 800-3000 meters in length),  are incredibly scary on another, especially when you have someone racing in one.  Positioning, cornering, avoiding crashes: the key to crit-success...and for 35 minutes this afternoon, in dowtown Bend, that's what my husband will be doing. On the sidelines, I'll be chewing my nails and pacing...Once he's done, we'll come back to our rental, hang out for a bit, and return downtown to watch the pro riders race - all 190 of them - for 75 minutes.

Yesterday's race was quite the challenge.  Heat, big fields, 3 miles of climbing at the beginning; 11 miles of torturous climbing at the end: certainly a race of attrition, as the packs that formed early in the race wound up splintering apart as the 'agony fest' unraveled.  Fortunately, my water-bottle passes were a success, although seeing a crash in the feed zone (and again at the finish) was freaky.  My husband finished mid-way in this field; given the conditions, I think that's mighty fine!  Tomorrow's race will also be a suffer-fest - 64 miles around a 16-mile circuit, with some major climbing.  Have I mentioned how glad I am that I'm on feed zone duty, and not racing!  Monday, we're off to the awesome bakery here in Bend, where getting a HUGE cinnamon bun is on the agenda! With all the calories he'll have burned, it's a well deserved treat!

To all of you who have wished him "luck" ~ THANK YOU!!  He appreciates your well-wishes immensely, as do I. What a fabulous crafting community!!

Anyway...enough of my babbling.

My card was inspired by AAA Cards Game #11

I used my STAMPlorations floral stamps to create squares, then sponged the same ink onto cardstock to die cut wee butterflies (hard to  see the stitching on them - they are so darling!).  Added a STAMPlorations hello and...done!

My colours also fit into those at ColourQ #250, so I'll head that direction, too.

(Isn't this a fabulous dress? Want!!)

The photo of the card standing up is a bit 'blurry' (hard to find good light in our rental), so I took a 'flat' photo as well, so you can see how pretty the floral stamps are a bit better

Thanks so much for dropping by; your visit and comments add sparkle to my day!

wow, wow, wow. Carol your card is just stunning! I LOVE the colours you got here and genius stamping to create those boxes. Just reading about that cycling has made me tired! I need to go and have a nap now! I take my hat off to those athletes and good luck to hubby xx

You have been such a busy commenter lately - I wasn't even getting one of your comments read on my blog before the next one came in! Thanks for visiting, particularly given how haphazard I am at commenting! I love what you've done today. The patterns are busy and cheerful - but being monochromatic and with the cute butterfly on top - it's still wonderfully clean and simple.

SWEET CARD! So in return for you supporting DH in multiple ways with bike racing, does that mean you got a bunch of quality time in scrapbook stores?? Fair is fair, after all, lol! Love the bright and beautiful colors, and your perfect use of that sketch. Just wonderful dear friend. And with your travel kit too! Safe journey home. Bev

Wonderful colour blocking. You could put little bikes in there too wink, wink LOL! Well done on the race in such temps - surprised more guys done pass out during these races! Yikes!! Those fast circuit races are scary indeed and I hate seeing the wipe out piles on TV when we watch the Tour. Best of luck to him tomorrow and enjoy your cinnamon bun :)

Wow Carol, your husband some some amazing racing as well as scary racing!! I not sure how you don't have loads of grey hair, I do and color it. lol Mine's from 6 boys, 5 deployments my military son did, 1 deployment another son did and my hubby. lol I sure hope (since I'm behind, I might find out as I go) that your hubby stayed safe while racing and happy to hear that he did good in this race. I am also so happy to hear that the water pass went well too, so hooray to you too!! Now I have to say that I love, love this card Carol! The colors-fabulous, the sketch-awesome, that dress....oh lala! lol Love the dress, now if I was skinny enough to wear something like that once again. Sorry...back on topic...I love that background stamp and then the butterfly on top. And yes, I am loving the butterflies with all their fabulous stitching!! I guess you know that I will CASE'ing this card from you. lol Hugs, Brenda

Huh hah huh hah huh (that's me, huffing and puffing just thinking about that race!! And in the heat to boot!! I.can't.even.imagine!!! On my knees bowing to your sweet and amazing man for competing, not to mention all the training that lead up to the big day. Okay, heart rate coming down a bit. Uh oh - just shot back up again!! Because holy WOW WOW WOW!!! Your card is pure art! Something that you would find on a canvas in an upscale home décor store. Absolutely gorgeous, Carol!! GORGEOUS!!!
