Thank You...Freshly Made Sketches #142

Hello! I hope everyone had a most fabulous weekend, filled with summery fun.  Summer is taking a long, slow saunter to arrive here, with clouds and rain spits yesterday; clouds, gusty winds (seriously, enough. with. the. wind!), and rain today.  Complaining, however, should not be on my agenda, because last year we were in the midst of flood-devastation.  The forecast is for sunny and (I'll just whisper the next word) h.o.t. later in the week.  Fingers crossed!

Yesterday was a crafting day (husband out riding...neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet keeps my guy off his bike...well, blizzards, cold winds, torrential downpours the exceptions), but not a whole lot to show for it. I was 'practicing' stuff; some worked, a bunch did not.  Grrr...watercolouring. Grrr...splotchy sponging...

Today, we made a trip to the 'big city' where I had my 'fix' of shopping errands: a much needed top-up-the-basics at Costco (almonds, chocolate chips, blueberries, plus an assortment of other things...yummm), a stroll through Michaels (adhesive tape only...so proud of myself!), a walk through a mall - in pursuit of a pair of black flats, which proved fruitless - and then home, in the pouring rain!  My husband travels to the city once or twice weekly, as part of his job, while I get there maybe once a month (or less, depending if we're off to see my family in the 'other' -  but 'better' big city *grin*).  The 'desire' to go usually winds up more fulfilling than the actual going. Traffic, crowds...eeek!! Then again, our small town  has quadrupled in size this weekend, with all the tourists coming for the Canada Day long weekend, so home or away, 'congestion' was a given!

Anyway, enough prattling!! My card this evening is for Freshly Made Sketches #142
and was especially inspired by Cindy L's card with the dragon fly.  I went simple: some patterned 12 x 12 paper with butterflies on one side, the swirls on the other; my pierced butterfly, inlaid (not sure if your can see the stitched outlines; and a thank you banner.  Construction time about 15minutes; figuring it out time 2 hours!! Yeesh....Oh well, the journey is just as, if not more, important than the destination...sometimes...

Thanks so much for dropping by; your visit and comments make my day!!

Adhesive tape? That was it? I'm bowing in admiration, Carol ... if you're not expecting some goodies via the mail, that is!!. This is so pretty ... that swirly whirly pink DP is perfect behind the butterfly ... kinda butterfly trail like! The stitched edges bring all the different elements together so beautifully! Yep, summery, bright and sooo happy! Hugs, Anita :)

What a beauty Carol! Your photograph is gorgeous too! I love the patterned paper you used and the inlaid butterfly is pure gorgeousness! And going through Michael's and only buying adhesive tape?? Are you for real??? hahaha!

Another perfect choice of DP! Keeping the center butterfly simple creates a lovely contrast between it and the pretty swirls! Once again, your keen sense of design shines through in this pretty card :)

We are currently experiencing SEVERE flooding in MB! Roblin, Brandon, Virden etc. have sewer backup that is filling entire basements! My cuz and her hubby spent then entire night helping several affected houses in Roblin. Luckily their house is out in the country and safe. She said she cried the entire night seeing the devastation in their small town. We have tons of rain induced flooded basements here in Dauphin (thank the heavens above for our sump pump) that is causing lots of grief...minor compared to the other areas!

Carol...what a fabulous card and your sweet butterfly standing proud in the center. And your border, so sweet. Sorry to hear about all your rain, we are having a drought here in California, so please send your water our way. Hope you have a wonderful holiday too. Any big plans? You are so good...only picking up tape at Michaels, I bow down to you! Enjoy your week.

This is a beautiful card Carol, I am loving the papers you used and of course your die cuts! I know summer was slow coming here too, but it finally arrived and it will for you too. It has been some unusual weather all over since winter. Your hubby is something else going riding in all kinds of weather-he must be passionate with biking! Happy Canada Day my friend, I hope you enjoy your holiday!!! Big hugs, Brenda

Okay, this card just makes me smile! The colours, the patterns, the inlaid die (really loving the look of that!)...it came together beautifully! And yeah, 2 hours of figuring out time...you're not alone!! (grrrrrrr!), but well worth the time!!!
