Many Thanks (and we're back!)...Fusion Card Challenge: Colourful Chevron Inspiration

Hello! Bet you didn't think you'd be hearing from me this morning, as we're 'supposed' to be officials at the first bike race of the season, in Lethbridge, rather than home, tucked inside our cozy little den (which is what it's feeling like given the weather).   The story goes like this...

Around 10:30am, after waiting and checking to be sure the race wasn't cancelled, off we went. White-knuckle passenger seat driving for me; at one point, my husband suggested, kindly, that I should just close my eyes and nap.  Advice not heeded, but I did spend the first hour or so with my eyes either closed or my hands covering them, at certain points.  The roads were more slushy than anything else, but seeing the number of cars in the ditch, from those heading our direction earlier (you can imagine how this fresh snow appeals to the skiing fans in our area!), was a bit unnerving.  We could tell, from the traffic heading west, that closures  must have taken place, because for about a 10km stretch, everyone was at nearly a stand-still, creeping along at snail's pace.  Our lane, heading east, and eventually south, was clear, and by the time we were through Calgary, other than rain and low hanging clouds, the road were okay.

We arrived in Lethbridge around 3:00 - misty rain, not much snow accummulated, windy -  received a call that the race had been cancelled, looked at one another with a "seriously??" expression, then turned around and headed home.  Oh wait, that was after a quick stroll through the craft store (lovely, but not quite what I expected) and a brief stop at Michael's for sequins.  Four hours later, we landed on our doorstep, having traveled through rain, some snow, slightly less slushy roads.  I can only imagine, though, how slippery the highway just outside of our town will be this morning, with temperatures dipping below freezing.  Scary!

While we weren't impressed that we wound up driving for slightly over 8 hours to arrive back at our starting point, it's certainly nice to be home to have Sunday to do as we please.  I feel  for racers who likely journeyed further than we did, arriving on-site yesterday, to find out, rather late in the game, the event was a no-go.  Still, if the trails are soggy and mud-packed, the race just can't go on, especially since mountain biking does require technical finesse.  No point risking injuries to either bikes or people.

Here's the view outside our patio doors this morning...

On most days, we can see the peaks of the Three Sisters mountains between the trees...no mountains in sight this am....

After all that (your patience is appreciated!!), I have a card to share for Fusion: Colourful Chevron Inspiration

Disclaimer: even though I was drawn to the colourful chevrons of the inspiration image, I'm chevron challenged. Love 'em, but can't do 'em.  I even have a chevron stamp that I look at.  That's all...just look at.  Seriously.  Anyway, my card isn't a contender for anything other than being a chance to play with chevrons on a little canvas.  Yes, I could have chosen just the sketch, but then I'd need a chevron die *grin*

Thanks so much for dropping by; your visit and comments make my day!

oh my goodness Carol I would have needed a very big glass of wine after that Saturday! Still nice to be home on Sunday and get to create. I love your Fusion card, the embossed background goes so well with the dotty flower and I do love that brad...I need to use mine more. Nonni recently did a great tutorial on using chevrons, if you didn't see it, here is the link http://www.hpylgr.com/sc?p=YTMzMjkxOTQxMjH%2B2%2FkIkF0epCIkHtUBXpOAGeJH1jxEySqn5BBuO7zSelVeNhi0lbNoBMQCvrqLRweJchvATmEz6aznn1A%2BFx%2F

Oh my goodness!!! That is just not right to be that cold and have that much snow in May! So sorry you journeyed for so long only to find out the race was canceled. But glad you got a nice Sunday to play! Your card is just adorable, even if you are chevron challenged! haha! The colors are so bright and springy and I love that little file folder! Hope you stay warm and cozy crafting today! :)

Oh what a bummer that you got to where you were going only to have to turn around and come home again! I have traveled with my hands over my eyes too and my hubby kindly suggested that close my eyes and nap too. lol I think we are the same while traveling! To many nuts on the road anyway. lol Your pictures are beautiful....if it was January or February!! I showed them to hubby and he said you can keep your snow. lol When will your snow go away? Or should I ask when does your spring begin?? Believe it or not, our temps are right on with Alaska. Nice, but not overly warm. I am loving your card, but having a hard time believing your are chevron challenged. lol I can be too at times, but I still love them and want Emma's chevron dies. I love your take on the sketch, and I love how you used Emma's file folder-so cute and love the chevron paper! Her flower dies worked fabulous on this card! Love the sentiment on the arrow. Cute, cute, cute!! Hugs

Wow... so much snow! I cannot believe how much snow you still have. Life with snow is something I know nothing about. I live in Texas (USA) and we will go 3 years without seeing a single flake. =)

Great use of color on your card. I like that polka dot embossing!

I'm so pleased you got home safely (and with sequins - well done you!) after such a long and exhausting trip. How frustrating. Loved seeing the pics. As someone who lives in an area which doesn't get snow it is quite amazing to see. Thank you for sharing. I think your chevron challenge means you need to get a die...just sayin'. lol Your card, however, is just darling! Love the bright happy spring colours. It's just a delight to look at.

What a journey, Carol ... at least you went through it together ... and got home safely to spend a happy Sunday crafting (yay!). Sweet card ... such a great bold bobbly background and I see chevrons, looking perfectly placed and at home and not looking at all challenged! Wow to the photo's ... I'm just wondering when the barbeque gets used??? Hugs, Anita :)

...and here I was grumbling about a skiff of snow! Yowzers!!! Glad to hear that you made it back safe and sound...and with unexpected crafting time waiting inside your nice, warm abode!

Love the polka dot background and the graph paper folder...totally 'fun'! Setting your design at an angle is a nice twist to the sketch - looks great! Sweet DP & brad too!

Ack!!!! I suspected that the race might be cancelled after I heard the forecast...but not after you'd already made the trek - no, make that scary trek out there!! What is going on with that weather, huh?!! I can't believe how much you guys got!!! Those pics are crazy!!! Well, on the bright side, I'm thrilled that you got to do a little crafty shopping! I still do not own a single sequin!! What is wrong with me?!!!!
Now this card is proof positive that you are not chevron challenged! You incorporated the chevrons expertly and they are perfectly balanced with the rest of the pretty elements on the card!! Love the funky flowers, and the pink polka background is awesome!! A perfect ten!!!

Whoa! What an adventure you took to get to the race that didn't happen! How frustrating! At least you got to visit craft stores and spend more time making cards. ;-) This card is lovely! Thanks for joining us at Fusion!

Nail biting story, I was right there with you in the passenger seat fearing for my life. :) I am sorry the race didn't work out but glad you got some shopping done and a Sunday at home. Meanwhile, I love you Fusion card, so bright and fun. It makes me happy to look at it! Thanks for playing Carol!
