This morning, we started off bright and 'late', aiming for new-to-us hike in the Lake Louise area: Boulder Pass. We drove about three-quarters of the way, watching the skies become darker and more ominous, and the winds gust with more force. Plan nixed, because no matter how stunning the scenery may be, we are 'fair weather' hikers, having had our fair share of wet weather 'incidents.' Back home, the skies were less threatening, so with my husband on his mountain bike, and I hoofing along in my runners, we hiked a nearby trail we haven't had opportunity to access since the floods of last year. Although I've come back exhausted and a tad broken (trying to keep up with him riding his bike...silliness, and not exactly a success), what a delight it was to travel along familiar paths. It's not a super easy trek - plenty of steep bits, making for interesting ascents and descents, as well as rocks, tree roots and foliage to navigate - but enough for a good workout. I have so earned some ice cream for dessert!
Tomorrow I'm taking my husband to Calgary, where he'll be joining the contingent of 'officials' for the second running of the pro-bike race: Tour of Alberta. From Tuesday through Sunday, he'll be riding on the back of a motorcycle, fulfilling his duties as "Moto-Commissaire #2." Last year, when he performed this role, he was nervous; this year, it's equal parts nervous and super excited! I'll be on my own-some until Thursday evening, when I'll head to Edmonton, to spend the weekend with my family and meet up with Andy once the race wraps up on Sunday. Actually, the last three stages of the race have Edmonton as their 'anchor,' so he may be able to join me at my folks' place. Time with my niece and nephew...Yayyyy!!!!
Anyway...I'm sharing my clean and layered card, inspired by the oh-so-pretty photo at The Card Concept #17 (I'd cosy up in that room in a nanosecond!)
and the wonderful sketch, created by the uber-talented Kim Singdahlsen, at Freshly Made Sketches #151.
A simple little card, featuring some patterned paper (a 'happy accident' find), stitched layered flowers, and a 'renovated' brad...
NOTE: So honoured and delighted that Kim selected by card as a Card Concept #17 winner! THANK YOU!!
Thanks so much for dropping by; your visit and comments add sparkle to my day!

Wow...oh my goodness, what an amazing card Carol! I love that beautiful heart stitched posies, so darn cute! I would love some of that ugly weather here, I much prefer the gray cloudy gloomy days than sunshine. But your card is a burst of sunshine if you ask me, so sweet and that sentiment, just perfect! When do you go back to school? Thank you so much for playing along with us at The Card Concept.
You must be in great shape with all the hiking that you do with hubby...Good for you!
I really love this card, Carol! The papers are so pretty and the stitched flower is gorgeous! I also love how you stamped the sentiment under the banner...so clever and it looks fabulous! I may have to CASE your idea sometime, if you don't mind :)
Absolutely gorgeous! You've combined these two challenges perfectly and your white flower is such a standout against that pretty green DSP. Thanks for joining us at FMS this week!
Clean, Crisp, Creative and....Gorgeous! TFS
I am pretty darn sure, 99.9% positive, that YOU my friend are the BEST!! This card is so delightful and that patterned paper is indeed a lucky find!! I love how it meets challenges and still stands on it's own as a very unique C creation!! Hope you are enjoying your evening!!
I am so glad you liked the sketch!!! It was my first and I was more than a little nervous! I love your layered flowers - mine are finally on the way - they have been out of stock every time I want to order something. The flower is great with the single color - and with the sweet pattern behind it!
I am so jealous of your hikes. I have not done well in the past few years with getting to the mountains, but I am making a real effort this summer to get in shape and out into nature. For me, there are nice hikes in the foothills (about 1/2 an hour away), but the real hiking in Summit County CO is 100 miles away! Nothing out my back door. I am heading up to the mountains next week for an entire week and will definitely be doing some of my all-time favorite hikes.
What a gorgeous card and you nailed the sketch Carol! I LOVE the layered stitched flower, who makes it? Hiking around Lake Louise is lovely, we did not get to Bolder Pass when we were out there last. Behind, behind but i hope your family time was enjoyable ~hugs
