Hello,
Talk about 'last minute' posting! I'm currently operating on one remaining 'nerve' in getting school things finished. Six more days...just six. more. days! Thank heavens for some snippets of crafting time, otherwise I'd be full-fledged looney-tunes!
I made my card Monday evening, and just as I was about to add my birthday sentiment (love that font...Your Next Stamp shop), my husband wandered by...complimented the anchor/chain and ocean-ish background...but expressed his puzzlement as to how "they' connected to a birthday theme. I gave him a very pronounced eye-ball roll (in a loving fashion, of course), then waved him off on a bike ride. HUMPH!! On the other hand, he may have a point (grrr...). Guess that means I ought to add 'nautically themed sentiments' to my shopping list, because I think my anchor is rather a delightful (as is my husband, but there are days...*grin*). I'm sure my mom's volunteer group will find a senior who has 'boats' or oceans in his past who will enjoy receiving this.
Anyway, ships ahoy, batten down the hatches, set sail and, well, whatever other sailor talk comes to mind for 'getting the oars a rowing'. .Here's my card...
NOTE: delighted to be selected for an Honourable Mention at CAS(E) this Sketch! THANK YOU!
NOTE: delighted and honoured that Kim selected my card as her *Top Pick* over at Always Playing with Paper. THANK YOU!
My sketch was inspired by CAS(E) this Sketch #128

Carol you just made my day with this awesome take on the sketch!
Thanks you so much!
Its so nautical... Loved everything about your card :)
This card is wonderful, my dear! I love the simplicity and the colors are great!
Have a great day!
PS I will answer your questions really soon, I'm pretty busy at the moment and I need time to write in english :-)
Lovely card Carol, and a clever take on the sketch...you have a good design brain. To appease hubby how about.......'just dropping anchor to wish you'..on the outside and your birthday sentiment inside?.........and maybe a teeny yacht top left in the distance?........sorry please don't think I am being picky and critical and horrible..I love what you do and I am sure it will go down well with whoever receives it! Hugs xxxx...virtual unfortunately!
Oooh, congrats on being so close to finishing up the year! Good for you for snatching bits of creative time, too. Your card looks terrific. I like the CAS style and the watercolor-y swashes that mimic the ocean. The anchor looks great! I'm not convinced you need to have a specific theme type of sentiment for a birthday card. If the recipient likes nautical things, this is perfect for them as is! You are honoring their interest by using the theme. (in my humble opinion, which is worth...hmmm...maybe a penny, LOL). On the other hand...an excuse to shop may override that idea. Either way, I like your card and don't feel any enhancement is required. Thanks so much for sharing and have a terrific day, Ms C! Hugs!
Men "....can't live with 'em, can't kill 'em." As some of my friends/family say. Just kidding, lol! The 'birthday' sentiment works well, as this could be a more manly card, or one for someone who likes to sail, fish, or just enjoys time by the water. This nails the challenges my friend. And hope that these last days of school go by quickly and without incident. Then it's 'enjoy summer' time! Bev
Great design! I love that anchor! Thank you so much for playing along with the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge!
I love your fabulous take on the sketch, Carol! It's wonderful!
OH for heaven's sakes! What do Panda's, flowers, or butterflies have to do with birthdays either?? Silly man! haha! As long as it says Happy Birthday, it's a birthday card! Just look at Hallmark! :) Anyway your card is amazing!! I adore nautical themed cards and this one is just fantastic! Love the paint swishes in the background!! How wonderful that you only have a few days left of school! Yay for summer vacation! I hope they swoosh by for you! And thank you sweet lady for the 14 comments you left for me yesterday!! I read and laughed and smiled at each and every one!! ((Hugs))
One thing a card artist husband needs to learn right up front: a birthday card can be made out of any colors and any images, that's what makes them so great. Your recipient likes flamingos, or barbecues, or purses, or nautical, or astromaniacal, no problem! We've got an image for that!
In this case, anyone who even remotely loves the ocean would squeal with delight to receive this stunning anchor and chain card, Carol! The waves are awesome! And I, too, am in love with YNS fonts and bought just about all of them a couple of months ago. (I wish they made bigger ones.) Hang in there for now five ? more days!! You can do it! Hugs, Darnell
My husband wanders by regularly and says "too much bling". I am NOT a bling person (except maybe three little sequins) - so I cannot figure out why he thinks that.
I think birthday can go on anything so ignore him! I love your anchor with the swooshes of blue.
LOL Sounds like my hubby Carol! I happened to think your birthday is a great masculine card for the man who loves all things beachy. Who said that your sentiment had to match your images?! lol I think your good, so just ignore hubby (cause do they really know about crafting???) and just march on! Hugs, Brenda
Carol, this is a perfect male birthday bard for someone who would appreciate a nautical theme. Period. Amen. I just made a card with an anchor and similar color scheme for an 80th birthday celebration for a friend's Dad who is a boater. So tell your husband that his may be a bike, but someone else's bike is a boat! (or anchor). I just love your card. Love the paint stroke background, the chain on the anchor, the sentiment! Just fabulous!
Wow, I really love this card! Your water background looks fabulous with the red anchor! What do men know!!!
Men... I love it ... it says WHATEVER or how about something wonderful about the person who receives it being your 'anchor' - LOve the anchor, even more the waves, and that chain is OFF the CHAIN my friend!

WOW...what a card! I love those fabby stripes and that anchor is amazing. Thanks for joining us at The Challenge.
Carol love this so much, what a fabulous design with signature Carol awesomeness! Thank you for sharing at CASology this week!
I'm echoing what everyone else has said! Your card looks great, the blue swooshes are fab and the anchor just finishes it off perfectly. Men! Thanks for joining in the Uniko Challenge.
Good morning sweetie, I love this creation and the colours you have chosen :0) hugs Pops x
I love this! Of course, it can be a birthday card! Those swooshes of blue are fabulous.
The soft blue brush strokes is a fab touch :)
This is awesome! Love it!
I think the anchor works...cuz I made an anchor father's day card for Danny's dad...and he doesn't have a boat! Awesome nautical colors too - another manly thing that totally works!
Another fabulous card, Carol! I'm sure your mom's volunteer group will find someone who will love it, too! I love the chain hanging off the anchor and how you created the 'ocean' in the background...very pretty!
Beautifully CAS.... so perfect for CTS #128!
Trust the man in your life to point out something so practical!! Dave does that all the time, so I just 'waft' the cards in front of his face nowdays before he has the change to focus on anything wrong...... I think its lovely, especially that lovely blue for the sea. Hope you have a relaxing weekend planned, although it sounds like you have a big countdown to the Summer holidays. We have one more week before the kids break for a two week holiday. Its usually the hardest because the weather is usually awful so not many things you can do outside. Fingers crossed its doesn't rain much!!
Fabulous simplicity!! Love the "waves" in the BG.
Super cool! I love the color combination and the red anchor is so perfect for some man's birthday! Great for all of the challenges you linked up to! xo Melissa GD for Uniko. :)
I love this, Carol - it is perfect for a birthday. Your take on the sketch is inspired and I love that anchor and chain. Fabulous! Thank you for sharing it with us at Uniko too :)
I'm glad you put a birthday sentiment on it, Carol. I'm like your hubby and always feel like the sentiment should somehow "match" the picture but it really doesn't have to. I'm trying to break out of that habit! Love the abstract waves and that big ol' anchor is fabulous! Hope these last couple of days go quickly and smoothly for you! Thanks for playing along with CASology this week!
Love this card. Absolutely perfect. Those blue stripes are the perfect background for that anchor. I love that you made it a birthday card. I am all in favor of using sentiments that are practical enough so the card will be used. Thanks so much for playing along at CASology this week.
So empathising with the marginal moments crafting, Carol ... just think of all that 'space' you'll have to create in just a few more days ... glorious! Fabulous card ... soft waves and a crisp bold anchor ... IMHO your birthday sentiment is spot on! Congratulations on your HM at CTS with this nautical nugget! Hugs, Anita :)
Oops ... in my excitement I forgot to add ... thanks so much for playing along with us at Uniko! Hugs, Anita :)
Works perfectly for a birthday card - anything works in my book, as long as you say "Happy Birthday" on it - lots of guys love boats, so why not....Your background are perfect stylized waves - very modern, clean and perfect!
Sentiments are my most difficult part of a card because I need to be able to use them. So birthday cards fit any image. I love your anchor and obviously the DT did, too. Congrats on the HM.
This card was so delightful to me - loved your take on the sketch and just how monumentally amazing this card was and I was THRILLED to see it get some acclaim over at CAS(E) This Sketch!!! So inspired by you and I think you are just knocking them OUTTA the park these days!! Do you feel how awesome you are??? I sure hope so because you have reached a level of total awesome-sauce that is wonderful to behold!!!
This post made me chuckle for many reasons! I think this is a fabulous birthday card, and I would definitely send it to a guy or someone who loves the water in some way (boats, fishing, the beach, etc.). A great card all around! Thanks for joining us at CASology!
Carol, this is just fabulous! I love your take on the sketch! The anchor and chain just pop off the card! I hope you enjoy your summer off from school! Thank you for joining us at The Challenge this week with your awesome card! XX
LOL! Sounds like my hubby! :) They think such practical thoughts, don't they? I really see this as simply a masculine birthday card...an awesome one, at that!
Love that big anchor and chain and the way you grounded the main image with the soft blue background image!
Thanks so much for joining us over at CASology!
Awesome CAS card!! I think it totally works as a birthday card, for someone who loves to sail, the ocean etc!!
This is fabulous!!!!! Where did you get that awesome anchor? And the BG......beautiful!!!
Love the swish of blue and the bold anchor against it. Great take on the sketch too :) Thanks so much for joining in on the Uniko Challenge. Hugs Bev x
