Sunday was bonus day over at Stretch Your Stamps 2 online class, and the uber-talented Debby Hughes
created a card featuring a 'watercolour spotlight' technique, using ME's Up and Away set. The basics involve a watercolour background created with an inked-then-spritzed acrylic block, followed with splots made with droplets of inks from ink spray nozzles. SA-WEET card, indeed!!
My 'give-it-whirl' wasn't quite as easily accomplished, as I don't have ink sprays, and most of my distress inks are in the form of markers. So...I scribbled on an acrylic block, spritzed, and created my mottled background. After re-wetting it, I used my markers to dab splotches where I wanted them to be. They spread rather nicely pretty much on their own, so I left them be...essentially a no-brush-required technique, other than to add water.
Here's my take on Debby's card, using STAMPlorations stamps...
My photo doesn't capture the colours well, as the inks really are more vibrant and pretty. I'm thinking that perhaps I should have used the non-textured side of the water-colour paper; then again, it is kind of cool
Even though this is a 'learning' card, I'm sharing my assignment over at TIME OUT Challenge #11, with the optional twist of butterflies, at 101 Watercolour Week 3
and in the class gallery, under Bonus Day.
Thanks so much for dropping by; your visit and comments add sparkle to my day!

You're so good at these classes, and I'm in awe of how you adapt your supplies and Make. It. Work. Dang girl. The splutchy butterflies remind my of my favorite peasant blouse from the 70s. Good memories; thanks for the spark! Have a good night, and I can't wait to see what you create next! Bev
