I had a most awesome weekend with my family (my niece and nephew are growing up waaaayyyy too fast! They are too. much. fun!) and now, back home (with time whizzing by!), I realize that Mr. Mojo didn't travel back with me. I'm in slow - and in some case, reverse - gear in card-making. So many ideas; so little success in executing them. Grrr...but we carry on!
I brought back, from my mom's, a smattering of older cards that, in looking at them now, I wonder what I was thinking! And I posted them! Eeeek! I dismantled several, managing to salvage several bases and other bits, and feel much better for doing so. New rule (or rather, 'old' rule) to be adhered (sorry...tee hee) to more firmly: only the cards I would be proud to send to someone will receive photo-ops and blogging status. Of course, that's entirely open to interpretation on any given moment but....you get my drift. Dud-reduction: that's my goal.
Anyway...time to shift from 'thinking out loud' to sharing my card. The other day, sweet Stephanie, from My Ink Well, mentioned a new-to-me challenge over at The Friday Mashup #210~It's All About the Lace. Isn't that cake elegant...and do you see the butterflies? Yep...went for it!
Here's my paper-and-ink translation of that lovely orange cake, with its array of butterflies...Simple, in the grand scheme, and yes, I think this is a 'send' card. I already have someone in mind...
Heading off to the galleries at:
Love the movement of the butterflies, and of course the gorgeous butterflies themselves :) Love the dud-removal quote. Been there done that LOL!
ReplyDeleteBeen there, Dud that... we all have boxes of them, right? This card is so delicious, c... reminds me of an Orange Creamsicle... is that coloring blending going on there? LOve it - love the cake!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd never cut into it, could you?

I'm so glad that you had a fun time with your family!! And I know all about how fast the little ones grow up. In the next month I will have two teenagers at home! I can't believe it!! Anyway, I totally understand your card thing. I make the call when I'm done with a card, blogworthy or not... heheh! Your card for today most definitely falls into the blogworthy category!! Beautiful background and lovely cascading butterflies and a perfect sentient!! ((Hugs))
ReplyDeleteSuper glad that you had such a fun weekend!! I totally know what you mean about the cards - but I think what you make is wonderful and I think they are all swoon and mail worthy!!! As for this most delightful gem of a card - WOWEE!!! So beautiful - your shading/blending is so incredible!! So well done and I LOVE your butterflies!! Hope you know how awesome you are - dud cards or not!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is gorgeous! And that background color?!...LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you had some fun, fun, and more fun! I always have trouble getting back into the routine of card making, too! Though don't worry, it'll all come back soon! ;)
What a bright and happy card! I love the ombre background with those white die-cut butterflies across it. Beautifully done! Thanks for joining us this week for the Friday Mashup Challenge.
ReplyDeleteWelcome home, Carol! I'm glad you had a wonderful time! I don't recall ever seeing a nonblogworthy card posted here, so you mustn't be so hard on your creations!! This one looks like it was made by someone all juiced up on mojo! It's magnificent!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteI love your butterfly creations, you always manage to create some thing new with them :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous butterfly card...I love your interpretation of the photo and that orange is scrummy. So even the very talented 'you' has moments of ...its not good enough....rubbish.....that's only your opinion remember, but like me its called being a perfectionist. I guess Mr Mojo did come back if this creation is anything to go by! Big Hug xx
ReplyDeleteYour card is simply gorgeous! I love that sweet peach color and your background is stunning with that sweet butterfly!
ReplyDeleteOk, I am now down to 5 days of school and still another week after that for clean up time. Wishing that your time left just zips by!!!
I'm glad that you had a fabulous time with your mother and your niece and nephew!! They do grow up way to fast, way, way to fast! It blows my mind how fast these kids grow up. I can't believe my kiddo's are grown, it was just yesterday they were all out back playing. I swear! lol Carol, I have never seen a card that didn't pass muster from you! And I have love each and every card you have ever posted including this gorgeous one here today! OMGosh, I love the inspiration photo, but it is your card that has knocked my socks off! Love, love, love your take on the inspiration photo! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteOh, Carol, I can totally relate to the "what was I thinking" cards. I've been going over my posts to prepare for a blog anniversary and I was horrified at some of them. Now your orange butterfly wonder is another matter. It is definitely a "send me" card.
ReplyDeleteYay for a fun weekend! Now - I do not have a summer birthday, but you can definitely send that card to me. LOVE it! It reminds me of a creamsicle - yum!
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful butterflies fluttering into the summer sunset sky!
ReplyDeleteDon't be too hard on yourself, rather be proud how much your skills have grown! Your cards are gorgeous! I don't remember any I would tear up!
And now I wouldn't mind a slice of that cake...
Lovely card! I just love the elegant simplicity! Thanks for playing along with us at Tuesday Throwdown challenge!

Hi Carol! So glad you had a marvelous weekend. What a spectacular card you've created! I adore the background you created (with distress inks, perhaps?) that allow those lovely white butterflies pop magnificently! For the record I don't think you have it in you to make a card that is non send worthy, because every card you make has a bit of your heart and love for crafting in it. That alone makes it worthy to send. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card and the background is lovely Carol. Your cards always make me smile
ReplyDeleteWhat a very pretty card!! Love the gourgeous butterflies!! Thanks for joining us at “Simply Create Too”, hope to see you next time again.

ReplyDeleteHere's what I've got to say about your card: "Well, hello gorgeous!!" Post-worthy, send-worthy, winner-worthy! For sure. LOVE the dreamsicle orangish colors of this beauty. Fantastic. Going to see my little ones in Madison tomorrow, and can't wait! They grow up so fast; you are right about that! Wish they stayed little a bit longer... Have a great weekend, and happy crafting! Bev
ReplyDeleteSo funny! I went thru a box of old cards the other day and nearly died when I saw some of the first ones I posted on my blog.....so embarassing!! Oh well, we all have to start somewhere and thank goodness both of our skills have improved since then! I really love your card, the soft orange tones are so beautiful and I think its perfect to leave the butterflies in white. This just has to be a winner!!
ReplyDeleteI just saw your comment to me asking for my chocolate mud cake recipe. More than happy to send it to you, its delicious and works everytime! Pls email me at shona.chambers@orcon.net.nz and will get it to you straight away, so you can spend the weekend eating it!!

This is a stunner, Carol! Your inked background is sublime - you totally and completely captured the essence of the cake in the photo! Definitely no duds in this post!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you had such a great time with your family! And yes, those little ones grow up too fast...it's not fair!
ReplyDeleteYour card is absolutely stunning, Carol! I love the ombre effect on your background and the butterflies...well, what can I say ~ You create the most BEAUTIFUL butterfly cards! Loving the die cut sentiment, too...just amazing, as always!!!
Yay for happy times with the family. Boo for being too hard on yourself. All of the cards I've ever seen you post have been beautiful and I would have been a very happy recipient of any of them. This card is so lovely too. Orange and I are not the greatest of friends but when I see what you do with it - I want to grab some orange ink and play too. So elegant!
ReplyDeleteOh my--that cake is stunning & I don't even like orange--or do I?! Your card is beautiful, Carol! So glad you had more fun Auntie C time!
ReplyDeleteOoops! Just looked one last way for the "summer" word die and I found it. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous background, Carol ... the crisp white of those gorgeous butterflies and die cut sentiment are beautiful against it! Catching up with catching up ... so I'll be back! Hugs, Anita :)
