Friday afternoon, we headed west - through fog and rain, which had me sketched out, particularly through Rogers Pass - to visit my husband's family in Kelowna for the long weekend, and to celebrate a combination of a late Christmas, Valentine's Day and an early birthday. So marvelous to visit with my mother-in-law, as well as my husband's sister (her birthday was the 'early' event), her husband and their lovely 17 year old daughter. My mother-in law gave me a gift certificate to the local scrapbook store here *rubbing my hands gleefully* More goodies joining my collection!
We had a delicious supper, opened gifts and then, when my husband's niece arrived, after her shift at a nearby retirement home, we feasted on a most decadent chocolate cake. Oh yes: remember the 'new' used car we bought recently? Well, that purchase meant we have three cars, soooo...my gift to my niece was to tell her that I want to give her my beloved Grand Am. She was in complete shock, and let me just say, my heart is exponentially happy that she's absolutely thrilled. My car will be well loved by this young woman, and as much as I'm sad to 'give up' my baby, I know it will enjoy living in a much warmer climate, receiving the TLC it deserves. Our next task will be figuring out how to get it from our place to Kelowna fairly soon. We'll be plotting and scheming plans over the next short while.
Anyway, before I head off for a walk into the blue skies and warm temperatures, I'm sharing a Valentine card tI made before we left: My teddy was coloured with prismacolour pencils and the red panel is embossed with polka dots. Bringing this to my sweet niece when I head north - hopefully - later in the week.
My layout inspiration comes from CAS(E) this Sketch #110
A Blog Named Hero~Small Scale (hope my teddy and little hearts are 'small scale' enough to fit the challenge)
Thanks so much for dropping by; your visit and comments add sparkle to my day,
Hugs...
This is so adorable Carol. Your niece is going to love it! Have fun shopping for your new supplies ... that is the perfect gift from your MIL! :) Loll xx
ReplyDeleteHow so very sweet of you to give your niece your old car Carol! You brought tears to my eyes when I read that! Sounds like it was a wonderful visit for you and hubby. And some crafty goodness to be bought as well!! Have fun shopping!! Now for this lovely and super sweet card-could it get any cuter?! I love it, love how you used MCT products. Your little bear is colored so great, I swear it looks like you used Copics and not colored pencils. Even though I know Prismacolor pencils are awesome on their own, it just looks like Copics! I need to learn to color like this! lol Hugs my sweet friend-Brenda
ReplyDeleteCarol, very cute card! Thanks for playing along with our Small Scale Challenge at A Blog Named Hero! -Jessica ABNH DT
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear you arrived safely with your hubby's family, Carol! And that entire car business … as a German, where cars cost so much I have trouble counting the zeros behind that first two digits, it still blows my mind how cars are handed down/gifted in the US and Canada. My mom's currently looking at a _very_ small used car (just to drive around the city) and if you want something that will pass the mandatory inspection every 2 years for the next few years, you have to invest at least a healthy 8,000 Euros (roughly 11,000 CAN $). You can go cheaper, but with our safety standards and laws, maintenance might cost you more than the car itself :) … which is why I don't own one, still :D So, very envious of your niece and very happy for her as well. That's an amazing gift … and the card is just as wonderful as your big big heart, Carol! *hugs*
