I'm again thrilled to be sharing a card for Addicted to Stamps and More #129~Clean and Simple challenge. An oldie but a goodie came out to play...
I have a fondness for old-style typewriters. Many, many, many moons ago, my second year of teaching saw me 'teaching' Typing 10 to high school students five classes a day (when you're a newcomer to the profession, you take what they give you...for a year, or two, or...several), One class had the at-the-time uber-razzamataz electric typewriters, while the other four were standard, fling-that-carriage-at-the-bell models. I remember, during 'some' lessons, chanting away with "f-f-f-space-j-j-j-space". Trust me, those little sing-songs did not last long; how to feel like a 'dummy' in front of a group of high school kids. And the 'marking' of keyboard assignments: seriously boring! Whoever came up with that...sheesh! Eventually, I taught what I was educated to teach, which was far more complex, time-consuming and energy-invested than Typing 10 - and yep, many the times I 'still' came across as a dummy in front of a class! Ahhh...memories.
Anyway, enough of back-in-the-days chatter; time to send you off to see what my fabulous teammates have created. I know they'd appreciate if you shared a little keyboard love with them *grin*
As a little extra enticement to play along, we're being sponsored by generous, talented and creative Shery over at
who is offering the winner a $10 gift certificate. Awesome! See...no excuses not to play!
Inspiration for my sketch came from Less is More #208,
so I'll be heading that direction, too.
Thanks so much for dropping by; your visit and comments add sparkle to my day!
Hugs..
I loved your little story. I could hear the bell of the typewriting in my head lol. I love the design and colours you used for this card. xx
ReplyDeleteI loved my high school typing class!! You would have made the best, funnest, cutest teacher I could have!! The one I had was so boring and spoke in a monotone voice!!! Anyways - I love old typewriters, I see one and I cant resist typing "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country" - For some reason that was what we always typed to warm up!!! =] OK, ok so onto your amazing card - that is an awesome example of less is more!! Cuz this card has less stuff on it than some but it way more impressive too!! Love the side banners and think you just did an A++++ job on this little gem!! I think I will get on over and play in these challenges also!!! Please, dear C, keep smiling and being who you are, a sparkly treasure of a friend!!! Hugs!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome clean and fabulous [CAF] card! Love the story -- ha! I remember my typing class... to bad I never learned the keyboard!
ReplyDeleteOh, Carol, you made me laugh with your story teaching typing! It brought back memories from my typing class where the teacher (a guy) "sang" (also in a monotonous voice) f-and-f-and-f-and-space, etc. When my son wanted to learn how to type a few years ago, I did the same thing and wondered how my teacher never fell asleep!
ReplyDeleteYour CAS card is top notch again! Love the font of the sentiment!
I SUCKED at typing in high school! Learned on both kinds of machines. Luckily, the teacher had pity on me, and I did tons of mimeograph duties for the school rather than do much typing. It worked though, here I am today, "keyboarding" like crazy, thanks to teachers LIKE YOU. This is such a sweet card. Love the black and white with the pops (poops, lol) of red. Wonderful composition -- lots of sweet white space. Beautifully CAS. Have a great evening. Bev
ReplyDeleteOh my how I laughed when I read this! I took typing the old manual machines and always got my "t" and "h" crossed as I did them too quickly. And oh how nice it was to have the new electric ones come in. I too remeber "fff" "asdf" "jkl;" Darling card giving tribute to the good old days LOL!
ReplyDeleteSo funny, I used to teach and I won't tell you what the kids nickname for me was....lets just say I was a bit strict!! Adore the combo of wash tape here, fan colours x
ReplyDeleteFeel free to chatter about whatever you like! Love hearing your tales...almost as much as I love seeing your gorgeous creations! Super cute card again here, C! You have a talent! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm still a onefingered typer, but it was good to remind ourselves of the improvements in technology!
ReplyDeleteA great CAS card Carol. :)
Ha, your teaching story made me laugh, Carol! Yes, I can still hear those bells and "the quick brown fox" exercise also comes to mind! I adore your card...awesome in the red, black and white!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun card...love that typewriter.

Stunning card, Carol. Love your layout and colours.
ReplyDeleteThis one is such a fun take on the challenges, Carol! Having been chained to a typewriter/keyboard my whole life, I just love that little typewriter! I can't believe you used those really old models in your class! IBMs were brand new when I first took typing, but I've played on the old ones. It was so hard to push those keys down, especially for me since I have genetically bent little fingers!! Anyway, I love your work ethic!! Hope things are going well with your Mom! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I remember well those typewriters and the typing class. lol Just let me say that you weren't alone in feeling like a dummy. But for as boring as typing class could be, it was just as fun to me for some reason! I loved learning the keys and was in awe of myself when I did! How can something so simple thrill me so? I have no clue, but it did. lol Now I wish I had me one of those old vintage typewriters! I love their sound! Love, love this card and you know where it is going....yep to my pin board. lol I will be CASE this little beauty one day! Hope you are having a wonderful week Carol! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteOh what a fun card! I love the old typewriter! We use to have one just like that and I can remember playing around on it! enjoyed your story about your early teaching days! I'll bet you were/are a fun teacher to have! ((Hugs))
ReplyDeleteWow, I haven't thought about typing class in decades. It's a good thing I took typing since I made part of my living as a secretary. I remember the old mimeographs, too. Talk about inky fingers. :-) Anyway, I love your card. The design is great and red, white and black always speaks to me.
ReplyDeleteHehe, I learned to type on one just like that! In fact, one of them had blank keys - that was fun...
ReplyDeleteLove the clean crisp colour scheme of your card :)
I remember those old manual and electric typewriters...How did we function? Yikes! I love your crisp, clean design on this card, Carol! I also really love your color combo...perfect with the typewriter and banners!
ReplyDeleteA lovely CAS creation Carol, the type writer stamp looks like fun!, love the banners too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous design! love that typewriter and great take on the sketch.
ReplyDelete...the little red fox jumped over the fence once! Remember that typing class ditty? I do.....it seems like just yesterday!
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious that you are at peace with the Typing 10 memories and were able to move past to creating a charming typewriter card! Great choice of DP's too.
See you on the weekend! Doesn't that sound great? :)
Many many years ago I remember learning to type on one of those typewriters so I have a fondness for those images of the old style, too. Love your card!
ReplyDeleteSuper stylish creation and a great interpretation of our sketch!

ReplyDeleteYou stirred up some old memories. I had a male typing teacher! Can't for the life of me remember his name at the moment. It'll come to me in bed tonight. I love your CAS beaut with the typewriter. Old typewriter fonts are some of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteSuper cool CAS card!! Love the old type writer and the banners!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the typewriter. Can't say I miss them all the time. ;)

I am with Taunya....I loved my high school typing class so much. We had electric typewriters at my school but at home we had an old big black Royal! What a pain to practice on. Love your stories and I don't think it matters what grade you teach, there is always something you have to teach that makes you look like a dummy...even in preschool!
ReplyDeleteOk...enough about school and typing and on to your card. I love it! So cute and I love the retro look you created. And a sweet way to say thank you.
Hahaha, great post, Carol ... took me waaaay back ... we had to cover the keys with a sheet of paper so we couldn't look at what we were tryping!! Cool card, love the pop of colour in the banner and sentiment! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteTrendy, wonderful card, Carol!
ReplyDeleteI like vintage typewriters too - your card is simply fabulous. Love it xx
ReplyDeleteThe typewriter is fantastic Carol! What a great message and thank you card!

ReplyDeleteWhat a clean and sweet design :) Fun papers!!!
ReplyDeleteSpots, stripes, red and black and at great little message, what's not to love.
ReplyDeleteI learned on electric typewriters at secretarial college and remember it so well. The teacher used to come round with a ruler and put it under our wrists shouting 'wrists up!' And don't get me started on carbon paper, what was wrong with a good old photocopier! haha x
Cool Image
ReplyDeleteLove the color combo
Great use of the sketch
I adore the CAS look miss C
I am sorry not go around at blogland busy with my son ;)
