and fabulous guest designer, Cinni
at Inkspirational Challenge #61, where we have a word prompt to stir our creative juices.
I'm quite often the slow-poke of the team, waiting until nearly the last minute to submit my cards (oh, what a surprise. NOT!), and this time was no exception. Rather than create a card before we traveled to Bend (love, love, love Bend), I brought along my mobile crafting unit, hoping that something would 'ping' during our drive or upon our arrival. It did...with my interpretation of "splash" heading off in a colour direction.
In addition to the word prompt, my card was also inspired by Poppy Sketch Challenge #8:
and another of my new STAMPlorations blooms. I followed the sketch above quite literally, as you'll see. My "splash" is the rose I water-coloured (and the wee green gems on the butterfly). YES! I water-coloured (a few tries required, but one finally turned out) and hopefully I did this lovely rose justice with my effort. If you squint, you'll see little 'brush dots' of yellow around the frame; they're faint, but there - and that's about as close as I've come to 'splatters'. "Controlled splatters"....
I hope you'll join us at Inkspirational Challenge #61, with your take on 'splash'; so many possibilities...
ETA: I'm also adding my card to a challenge newly discovered: Crafting with Dragonflies Challenge #30: CAS. From what I've seen, it looks like a fun place to play!!
Thanks so much for dropping by; your visit and comments add sparkle to my day!
Hi Carol, great card for our "Splash" challenge :o)
ReplyDeleteYour water colouring is wonderful Carol and the controlled splashes are the perfect way to finish off this card xx
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely, Carol! The flower is colored wonderfully and I definitely see the splatters around. Looks like you went for a color splash as well. =)

ReplyDeleteDon't ever say that you are not good at watercoloring because this rose is so pretty! As is the whole card, splatters and all!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty and elegant . And I must know more about the 'mobile crafting unit'!
ReplyDeleteWow Carol, you have just proven that you are good at water coloring!!! I love that rose and how it turned out!! The sketch is fabulous and I love your take on it, love, the butterfly. Your "splatters" can be seen and I love them! Yes my dear you did an outstanding job water coloring!!! I'm glad you took your mobile crafting unit with you and I hope you have a great time in Bend!! I'd love to see that countryside myself. Now don't let any bikers run you down either while handing hubby his water when he comes by. We were just harvesting the winter wheat, the rest of the crops (corn and soybeans) won't be harvested until Oct/Nov. Have a wonderful time my dear, wish you were in my neck of the woods! Hugs, Brenda

ReplyDeleteWow, Carol ... mobile crafting unit watercolouring ... awesome! The dimension on this rose is fabulous ... seems I could just reach out my hand and touch those soft yellow petals ... simply beautiful! Hugs, Anita:)
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe the things you are creating while on the road!! They are gorgeous and this one is no exception - I love yellow roses, they were my wedding flower!! Just absolutely gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteDelete this if I already said it. Think I hit the wrong button, so I'm writing it again. (Must need more coffee!) Doesn't look like you're a beginner at watercoloring--gorgeous rose! Love your "brush dots"--gotta try that!
ReplyDeleteWow!! Swept off of my feet!! Your water colouring is nothing short of beautiful!! Honestly, it looks professional!! Fabulous choice to keep the beautiful butterfly in black, silhouetted against the gorgeous bloom! The brush dots add some more pretty and a pinch of whimsy to complete the card perfectly!
ReplyDeletebtw, Dave ended up finishing work much sooner than I'd expected yesterday, so I only managed to get one comment off to you :( But I'm taking the 15 mins before our phone chat (eeeek, can't wait!!) to do a few more :) :) :)
Goodness, your watercoloring is amazing, Carol! Love the vintage-y look of the rose...and your "controlled spatters" are just the perfect accents! As you can see, I'm WAAAAYY behind visiting and commenting on blogland -- I have a lot of catching up to do, but hopefully I will get there. I did want to let you know that I had printed off your wonderfully detailed email and I have been reading it during the week. Looking forward to this weekend when I can hopefully, fingers-crossed, relax and write you back. Do know, though, that you're amazing and I love the way you write -- I loved all the details of your "adventure" in Bend that I felt like I was there too...well, before or after the part where a cyclist took a spill :o)
ReplyDeleteThis is striking! Love the yellow rose and bold black contrasting lines! Kudos!
ReplyDeleteHere from the SYS2 pre-class gallery! =)
