'Tween Birthday Card (X 3)...Reverse Confetti SKYTT, PS: SPARKS: Anything Goes, Seize the Birthday

Yesterday, we traveled to the ‘big city’ for - yep, bike races – and definitely one of the most fun, unique events of the cyclocross season.  “Dark Knight” is all about ‘different’ and a ‘wee’ bit (okay, make that a lots bit) zany.   Because it’s an evening race, we didn’t get home until after midnight (late supper. Very), so I missed making a card for WCMD, although I managed to squeeze in a few hops before we left.  Today, even though I’m tired (getting old…when I miss my regular bed-time, I’m a doofus X 1,000 the next day!), I had my own-some WCMD.  I *had* to, because…I have my first official ‘will you please make a card for me’ request!

Last week, one of the sweetest, most dear Educational Assistants asked if I’d make a card for her grand-daughter, who is turning 13 on Oct. 12.  After chatting with Marion for a bit (at one point, the ’13, turning 31 comment’ spilled out), I realized that the mission I’d accepted was one not previously in my repertoire:  a card for a tween!!   Cards for little ones, I can do; cards for ‘grown ups’ – check on that, too (well, sort of a check…still have troubles with guy cards), but a tween?   Outside voice said “Absolutely, I’d be delighted to do this.”  Inside voice said ‘ STA-RESSSSS…what were you thinking! No ‘ tweenish girly girl’ stamps; no true tweenish girly girl papers; no experience with what makes a tween girl tick (even as a teacher, I met them in full-fledged ‘teenhood’…).   Once again, #inovermyhead.   Still, a challenge’s a challenge, so I donned my crafting cape and went to work…

For my first ‘tween attempt’ (you knew that  *more than one* would happen, especially when jitters are jingling…) card, I went with the Reverse Confetti Sketch For You ToTry,

and dived in to my Paper Smooches stash, where this week is an Anything Goes challenge.

Just to be on the safe side – and to give Grandma Marion some options  -  I tried another, using the mini-folder die, along with some PS and TAWS goodies.  This one is off to Seize the Birthday….

and *blushing bright red with embarrassment, because I’m still not sure I’ve got this ‘tween’ thing right*, so is the third, which is actually a pocket/gift card, in the even a wee something needed a ‘tuck in-able spot’…

Crossing my fingers that Marion will like one of these three; and if, by some amazing happenstance more than one captures her interest, well – you’ll hear the distance echoes of my whooping and hollering with joy.

Thanks so much for dropping by; your visit and comments are most welcome!!

  2. Well, you've got the whole 'tween thing mastered by the looks of these cards! I'm betting that Marion will love all three!! Love the first and last one best for a girl 'tween myself - the colors will appeal to girls that age, but the middle card is rather amazing too! Breathe easy now, and enjoy your day... Wait...did I just hear the sound of whooping and hollering echoing all the way down to here?! Lol. Enjoy your week. Bev

  5. Well, just let me say this....Marion is going to have A VERY HARD TIME choosing one single card! My goodness Carol...you knocked this self-imposed challenge right out of the ball park! I'm thinking that you DEFINITELY have a handle on this 'tween' thing! Perfect colors, funky styling, awesome designs, bang-on tween sentiments....mission accomplished dear friend.

Now, if only I knew the current 'tween' word for WOW, I would type it in this spot...but because I am completely out of that loop, WOW's the word from me!

  6. You can put a very large 'check' next to the 'tween cards' category in your amazing repetoire, Carol, these are all three so fabulous! My particular favorite is the first ... such fun DP, cool speech bubbles and banner, and brilliant fonts on each word of the sentiment! Let us know which one Marion chooses (if she can even choose once she gets to actually hold them!) Anita :)

  8. You were up to the challenge, my friend! I love all 3! Of course, #2 will only work if she doesn't have any other granddaughters--LOL! The last one is my favorite, but I have no idea what a tween would like--I have no experience, either! I'll be anxious to hear what grandma says.

  9. You are such a gem, you know that?!! How absolutely sweet and thoughtful of you to make three options for Marion! I love ALL of these!!! They ooze 'tween! Oh, what's that...I can hear Marion whooping in delight all the way over here!! And her grand-daughter is going to be "totes" in love with whichever one Marion chooses (I suspect grand-daughter will be receiving three cards for her birthday - don't know how Marion could possibly pick a fave!). This is just the first of many comments...you are about to be bombarded!! hahahahaha!!!

  11. Considering you were worrying about not being able to get the 'tween thing down, you've nailed it THREE times!!! Whoop whoop! These are all so cool and definitely 'tween-y ;) I know that fear though when you agree to do something that you're not sure you'll be entirely able to do - although you've cracked this one so the world is now you're oyster! :)

(I'm also glad to know that I'm not the only one who cannot function the following day if I miss my bed-time! I end up like a zombie!)

  12. What exactly happens in a "zany" bicycle race??? I'm not quite sure what I am picturing!!??

I think Marion has a great selection to choose from. Each one looks young and funky - but the variations allow her to pick from totally feminine to just plain fun!! Personally, I've added the file folder one to my inspiration file because I know it would work for me for future teen bdays!

  14. Oooh, I have that paper (first card) and I was just looking at it yesterday. LOVE Basic Grey papers. Love Paper Smooches stamps! Putting them together in this way is just FANTASTIC!

Marion is going to LOVE all three. Think you can most definitey add making tween cards to your card making repertoire now, C! :)
